Jazzi Chopra-Povall

Jazzi Chopra-Povall (RGN, MSc x 2)

Jasvinder Chopra-Povall (known as Jazzi) is Deputy Divisional Director of Quality and Nursing – Surgery, at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS FT. She has been instrumental in leading the implementation of the DaI-LiA (Diversity and Inclusion - Listening in Action) programme within the organisation enabling staff to voice their concerns and ideas for action, linking in with the EDI programme.

She is an RGN who has worked in renal medicine, specialising in Intensive Care Nursing and has extensive senior management experience in many Acute Trusts in the Midlands and Gloucestershire Hospitals as well as experience in Clinical Commissioning in Birmingham. Some of the greatest achievements she led saw the implementation of the quality assurance framework (QAF) across Birmingham in partnership with the council, care homes and CQC; seeing improvements in quality and safety. The QAF has been presented in various national events held across the country by NHSE and the RCN.

Equality, fairness and meeting diverse cultural needs for patients remains a high priority in all care settings; and in care homes this was embedded to see residents receiving more choice in foods, activities and religious events coming to them in their homes through the assurance framework. Her passion for safe care continues as does the health and wellbeing of the workforce. DaI-LiA has been inclusive in reaching in to all staff in the clinical area and has been able to address worries staff have expressed in a, “you said, we did approach”. The impact of Covid on all staff has been seen first-hand and her DaI-LiA programme is reaching in to staff to support them. Jazzi really enjoys developing, completing 2 master’s programmes, empowering and supporting staff to achieve their career goals also. She is involved in the pathway to excellence programme and has several shared councils in progress within the division, enabling frontline staff to really take forward decisions that benefit their patients and the staff.

In addition to the Deputy Director role and the CNO BAME SAG region role, Jazzi continues to remain clinical in ITU delivering direct patient care at UHB Birmingham, which she feels helps to keep her grounded to the changing needs of patients and staff in the NHS.

In her personal time she is married, with two fantastic children who make her proud everyday with striving aspirations of one day becoming a criminologist and a scientist. She loves walking and cooking, and has launched her own YouTube cooking channel called ‘My Moms Cooking’ crudely edited by her son. She was inspired by her daughter and nieces to create this channel, as they needed the visual guide to cooking curries when going to university; but it was also a legacy to her mom who taught her the art of authentic Indian cooking. Jazzi has some unusual adventurous hobbies, having recently done a skydive and frequently goes ghost hunting across the country.
